Borko Milohanovic has posted the video about system that He is currently developing Houdini Demolition master tool 1.1. The tool gives you control over fragmentation (shattering) and over RBD activation.

>> See Also: Houdini tutorial

In other words, it`s possible to direct and control destruction using custom geometry shapes and standard forces. Also it`s possible to emit particles, additional debris and smoke as well. Support for those secondary elements will be added in upcoming releases.

System also allows you to split your geometry into two peaces in case you don't need small fragments to cover whole object. Splitting geometry like that makes RBD calculation faster. As mentioned already it`s possible to use any kind of shape as fracturing guide and any kind of geometry to guide procedural activation including animated geometry as well.

It`s also possible to have fracturing on top of existing fracturing or layered fracturing using geometry as an guide. That gives you ability to place more smaller fragments in places where needed. Video below explains whole process:

"A group of friends and I have been working for three months with the goal of making Mari a better look development tool. We are very close to release the Arnold - aiStandard shader for MARI(developed with support from Solidangle), during the Alpha/Beta phase of Mari 2.6.

In addition, we also offer a new production workflow in the form of an automated texture exporter for Maya. The exporter works closely in conjunction with the new shader - sending across all texture inputs and shader attributes from Mari to Maya and building a new shading network from the exported data.

ReelSmart Motion Blur 5 for After Effects, Nuke

Artikel After Effects, Artikel Avid Media Composer, Artikel Compositing, Artikel Featured, Artikel Final Cut Pro, Artikel NUKE, Artikel ReelSmart Motion Blur, Artikel RSMB,
[ #RSMB #AfterEffects #Nuke ]
RE:Vision Effects announced the release of ReelSmart Motion Blur version 5 with GPU support for: Adobe After Effects; Apple; Final Cut Pro; Avid Media Composer, Symphony and Newscutter; The Foundry Nuke; Adobe Premiere Pro; Assimilate Scratch; and Sony Vegas Pro.

>> See Also: Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks 2.5

ReelSmart Motion Blur (RSMB) automatically adds more natural-looking motion blur to a sequence. Proprietary tracking technology is at the heart of RSMB, so there is no handwork involved. You can add as little or as much blurring as you need and even remove motion blur! This is a useful tool to give video a more film-like feel, and is also useful to reintroduce motion blur for blue or green screen shoots where a fast shutter is necessary to pull a good key. Also included in some RSMB versions is a feature that allows you to blur with user-supplied motion vectors that, most likely, will come from a 3D animation system (see the RE:Vision Effects website for which versions include this feature).

Speedups up to 4x on GPUs when using RSMB have been measured over running RSMB in CPU mode, already known for its speed. Speedups of this magnitude are usually seen with higher end cards. Note that most currently-sold GPUs will provide customers with needed acceleration, including many mobile GPUs for laptops. Of course, the total speedup end-users will see will vary once application overhead is taken into account: this includes disk I/O, internal host buffering schemes, bandwidth of PCIe bus, codec used for footage, etc.

Users are advised that their specific speedups are dependent on system configuration, specific GPU, and features of RSMB that are used. Customers who have used RSMB v4 should test the demo to make sure they will see the speedups they desire before upgrading to RSMB v5.

Availability and Compatibility

• Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5, CS6 and CC.

Cebas moskitoRender for 3ds Max

Artikel 3ds Max, Artikel Cebas, Artikel Featured, Artikel moskitoRender, Artikel Rendering,
[ #moskitoRender #Cebas #Rendering #3ds Max ]
cebas Visual Technology Inc has announced their new moskitoRender for 3ds Max

moskitoRender™ is the first full-featured GPU renderer for 3ds Max with the least amount of hardware and creative restrictions of all GPU-only renderers on the market! moskitoRender represents the next generation of robust rendering systems for 3ds Max and Design - it offers a true continuous workflow with easy setup, less parameters and lightning fast results. moskitoRender is one of the very few, if not the only, renderer that has NO materials of its own, yet supports ALL of the 1,300 materials from the Autodesk Material Library as well as the standard 3ds Max materials.

moskitoRender is a true Physically Based Spectral Rendering solution meant to replace any one of the standard 3ds Max rendering options. Its rendering system offers a unique new CUDA based core technology that is highly optimized and overcomes many of the limitations found in other GPU-only renderers. Image creation is based on strict unbiased path-tracing methods.
In its core, moskitoRender handles light and colors and their distribution between different surfaces in the form of electromagnetic waves; it is the only known method to accurately represent natural occurring effects like Diffraction for example.

The unapologetic use of unbiased path-tracing with Physically Based Spectral Rendering sets moskitoRender apart from any other GPU-only rendering system on the market. This combination simulates many real world illumination and camera effects in "one go" without the need to add any extra methods and algorithms to simulate soft shadows, depth of field, motion blur, caustics, ambient occlusion, and global Illumination to name a few. moskitoRender can easily produce images that are indistinguishable from photographs.

Although moskitoRender is based on physically accurate calculation models to create photo realistic renderings, it still allows artists to unleash their imagination providing them with the freedom needed to feed their artistic appetite. It is exactly this kind of flexibility that is to be seen and experienced by our users for the first time in a GPU-only rendering solution.

moskitoRender is the first GPU-only renderer for 3ds Max to introduce full support of the more than 1,300 Autodesk Material Library catalog along with most of the standard mental ray materials and shaders and the standard 3ds Max materials and textures. Examples of supported materials include complex beasts like the Environment/Background Switcher texture, Matte/Shadow/Reflection material and such compound textures like Blend, Layer, Falloff and Composite.

The way moskitoRender works is such that Textures, normally found in a 3ds Max scene, are automatically converted into highly optimized GPU code. moskitoRender might be the closest thing ever to achieving the goal of completely replacing a CPU renderer.

Although moskitoRender is based on physically accurate calculation models to create photo realistic renderings, it still allows artists to unleash their imagination providing them with the freedom needed to feed their artistic appetite.

Prices and release dates have not been set yet, but will be announced very soon

Miarmy 3.0 for Autodesk Maya

Artikel Basefount Technology, Artikel Crowd, Artikel Featured, Artikel Maya, Artikel Miarmy, Artikel Simulation,
[ #Maya #Crowd #Simulation ]
Miarmy (named "My Army") is a Human Logic Engine based Maya plugin for crowd simulation, AI, behavioral animation, creature physical simulation and rendering. and Basefount Technology has announced Miarmy 3.0 for Autodesk Maya

Character Controller
PhysX Character Controller (CCT) is a concept from game engine and now Basefount integrated it into Miarmy. CCT is able to make your agents walk on other agents without any penetration. And you can adapt any deforming or moving dynamics terrain, rigid bodies, debris, shatters etc. Also CCT can simulate agent gravitational fall from high place and continue perform logic action

Agents adapt dynamics bridge and walk onto it by CCT enabled

Continuous Collision Detection
Continuous Collision Detection (CCD) can predict collision based on its own speed. With CCD technology, the fast moving rigid dynamics arrows which emitted from RBD emitter are able to prevent penetrating with the collide objects. You can use it simulate more realistic arrow hit on the wall or agents shield.

Left: without CCD Right: with CCD (no penetration)

Upgraded Servo Force System
In Miarmy 2.7, Basefount introduced the servo force. It’s able to simulate the internal forces from agents itself. Instead of simple rag-doll "dead man", servo force simulates the muscle force and it can drive your agent to target animated pose/action after the agents enabling dynamics. And it can achieve more lifelike internal/external spontaneous physical simulation, such as some agents falling and struggling from cliff, self-restitution.
Now it support with:
  -Pin Dynamics
-Apply logic after dynamics enabled (bound, time) and the servo force can be turned on/off anytime
-Automatically adjust damping and joint, make it better performance

Servo Force driven Kraken attacking carrier

New Cloth Simulation
Now the cloth has its own point inertia make it more realistic. And also the jitter problem of kinematic control cloth points has been totally solved. And now the simulation will be faster than before, the cloth parameters will be much less and easy to control.

New cloth simulation

Middle Dynamics and Pin Dynamics
Now any dynamical parts of agent can be fixed and controlled by the any object, You can pin the bridge agent and make it only swing in the middle. Also You can pin the hand of agents and make them struggle in lower body by Servo Force. The pin and unpin agent parts can be done at any time freely.

Agents hand been pinned and swing and controlled by the servo force

Level of Details
The Procedural Primitive DSO mode of render, Renderman, Arnold and V-Ray all support Level of Detail now. You can render the low resolution geometries if they are far from camera.

LOD controlled render result

3DS Max Render Port
Basefount made a "3DS Max – Vray" Plugin for importing procedural primitive contents from Maya to 3DS Max. This is no need any data transfer and convert, Maya and 3DS Max share the same Render Data. Now 3Ds Max can easily render tons of thousands agents “matte” for VFX production, with a tiny procedural render data

Left: 3ds Max Procedural DSO render
Right: Maya Procedural DSO render
Share same render contents and program

Upgraded RBD Emitter
RBD Indexing Upgrade, can distinguish different RBDs collide. (Channel: rbdCollide[id])
RBD Collide name check, can check which part of agent been collided in.
Channel: rbdCollide:|||...
RBD Field Feeling
RBD Kinematic Mode (Laser Simulate)
RBD Emit Bomb

Gun fight scene

Combo Agent Upgrade
With Combo Agent tools, one agent can grab/hold/throw other agents. And each type of agent has its independent logic and action tree. Now it’s able to work with auto collision detection well, also when you enable slave agent, you can inherit the correct inertia.

Agent combo gremlin + man. 2 types of agents combined, 2 totally different logics and action tracks

Real Time Display Feedback
Now agents can be real-time displayed by OpenGL and its skinning calculation is accelerated by Intel TBB Multi-threaded.

Render Upgrade
Added some upgrades in render system.
  -Arnold DSO support PhysX Cloth
  -V-Ray DSO support PhysX Cloth
  -Renderman DSO support PhysX Cloth
-V-Ray DSO rewrote and now more faster and disk saving (more than 50%)
-V-Ray DSO replaces shader tool (Replace Assets Shader without re-export geometry)

Flicker Free is a powerful and easy way to deflicker video, an issue that's common with varying exposures in time lapse and slow motion (high frame rate) video. Flicker Free can also remove rolling flicker that is commonly found in footage shot under LED lights, footage of tv screens or computer monitors, or flicker caused by electrical interference. It's a perfect tool for restoring old or archival footage too!

-Ease of Use: The simple UI and presets makes it fast and easy to find the perfect settings for your footage. There's no need to analyze histograms, re-time footage, or other complex tasks.

-Presets: Presets for many different types of flicker makes it easy to deflicker video footage.

-Analyze on the Fly: You can get to work quickly. Flicker Free adjusts the brightness on every frame and doesn't require any 'pre-analysis',

Chaos Group has unveiled V-Ray 3.0 Beta for Autodesk Maya, which included in the initial round of enhancements will be a new Progressive Rendering Engine, support for several open source technologies, and up to 5x faster ray tracing and rendering performance.

After years of using V-Ray in production on projects like “Oblivion” and “Iron Man 3,” Digital Domain has used an early integration of deep image support to put some of 3.0’s features to the test. “On ‘Ender’s Game’, we hooked massive Houdini swarm simulations up to V-Ray Proxies and rendered the most geometry we’ve ever attempted at Digital Domain,” said Linghao Li, Technical Director at Digital Domain. “In one shot alone there were 333,443 ships on screen. 27 billion polygons rendered out for Deep Compositing and V-Ray handled it no problem.”

V-Ray 3.0 introduces a powerful new path-tracing engine (Progressive Image Sampler) that provides artists with instant feedback during the look development process. In addition, V-Ray 3.0's new optimized core raises speed levels dramatically in all physically-based lighting, shading and rendering.

For character and creature development, V-Ray 3.0 offers up to 15x faster hair rendering, improved Ray-Traced Subsurface Scattering (SSS), and a new VRaySkinMtl with built-in SSS and layered reflections. Support for MARI’s UDIM and Autodesk Mudbox’s UVTILE formats makes it easier for users to incorporate textures from their favorite programs.

“We rely on V-Ray every day to help us craft big projects like ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Warm Bodies’ and ‘Noah,’” said Dmitry Vinnik, CG/Technical Supervisor at LOOK Effects. “Faster ray tracing and hair rendering is exactly what we need to turn around big shots before a deadline.”

Already known for easy integration with production pipelines, V-Ray 3.0 has become even more versatile by adding support for common open source formats like OpenSubdiv, Alembic 1.5, Deep Images and OpenEXR 2.0, OpenColorIO, and in the near future, programmable shaders with Open Shading Language [OSL].

“Of the many renderers I’ve used, I personally feel that none are as artist-friendly as V-Ray,” said Blake Sweeney, DFX Supervisor at Method Studios. “The built-in shaders and render elements give us solutions for almost every situation imaginable. For the rare corner case that requires something extra, Chaos Group collaborates and brainstorms with us to find a solution, and it's generally included in updates almost immediately. I've never seen anything like it.”

Chaos Group invites all V-Ray users participating in the beta to send in their thoughts on what would make for the best final product. For the complete list of new features and upgrades, please visit V-Ray.com, the new home for the V-Ray community.
