PopcornFX is a 3D realtime particles VFX middleware for video games. All the creation process is made in a dedicated effect editor and you have to manage them via a multiplatform runtime integration into the game-engine. PopcornFx’s stream processing architecture and scriptable particles makes it both high-performance and extremely powerful.

>> See Also: Houdini Engine for Unreal Editor

Particle effects are created by artists in the PopcornFx editor. They are then baked and saved with the game assets. The PopcornFx runtime integrated in the game engine then loads the effects and plays them back. Gameplay can then interact with the effects and change properties exposed by the artists.

You can download the FX editor, which is totally free and unlimited. This is the actual editor used in production
● A personal, non-commercial license for tests, educational, evaluation at only 25€.

Krakatoa MX 2.5.0 for 3ds Max 2012 - 2017

Artikel 3ds Max, Artikel Krakatoa, Artikel Motion Graphic, Artikel particle, Artikel Thinkbox Software, Artikel VFX,
[ @thinkboxsoft ]
Thinkbox Software has announced that Krakatoa MX 2.5.0 for 3ds Max 2012 - 2017 is now available. In addition to adding support for Autodesk 3ds Max 2017 and fixing a few bugs, it improves the integration with Sitni Sati's FumeFX fluid simulator and adds a few new features which should make several particle editing and rendering workflows much faster and easier.

Krakatoa MX 2.5.0 now uses a different approach to accessing FumeFX data and should support future builds of FumeFX without the need for a recompile. On top of that, the PRT FumeFX object has been updated with advanced timing controls similar to the ones found in the PRT Loader, allowing the direct live retiming of FumeFX simulation data without saving PRT files to disk.

>> See Also: Watch Krakatoa video | Krakatoa tutorial

Along the same lines, the PRT Source object has been enhanced significantly to accept any particle source supported by Krakatoa itself, giving the user the ability to duplicate any particle system on the fly and apply transformations, deformations, Magma modifiers, culling operations etc. to the live clone without saving to PRT files first.

Talking about Magma, a new member of the growing Magma family is the SpaceMagma World Space Modifier. It enables the channel editing, scene data sampling and data display after the particles have been transformed to world space and possibly deformed by Space Warps and other WSMs. This once again removes the need to first bake a PRT object to a PRT file sequence and operate on a PRT Loader to gain access to the world space data of the particles, and should make particle editing workflows a lot more streamlined and significantly faster. The existing IntersectRay and NearestPoint operators now offer the option to ignore backfaces for all particles or on a per-particle basis for added flexibility.

PFlow Live Editing Using PRT Source And Space Magma

This video demonstrates some new workflows in Krakatoa MX 2.5 for deforming and editing live particles systems without pre-baking to a PRT file sequence.

PRT Source from Mesh And Legacy Particles

In this video, we look at the ability of the PRT Source object to duplicate both mesh vertices and legacy particles as Krakatoa particles that can be combined using the PRT Cloner modifier.

A new Birth Channel Generator utility has been added to Krakatoa MX to facilitate the generation of "Birth Channels" as a post processing step. A Birth Channel will contain the particle's value at the time of birth of the particle, or at a user-specified reference time, and will propagate forward and backward in time, allowing for various effects like sticky camera projections and more.

Krakatoa MX 2.5.0 Birth Channel Generator Utility

In this video we take a quick look at some possible workflows with the new Birth Channel Generator utility in Krakatoa MX 2.5.

The venerable Krakatoa PRT Birth and PRT Update operators in Particle Flow which used to accept only PRT Loaders as the data source have also been expanded like the PRT Source to accept any supported particle source (except for other Particle Flow systems due to a design limitation of Particle Flow itself). This means that you can now read data from any Krakatoa PRT object, Stoke Particles, Cebas Thinking Particles, 3ds Max legacy particles, Mesh vertices, or Spline interpolation points to create a update particles in a Particle Flow system.

Krakatoa MX 2.5.0 PFlow Operators With Splines, Meshes, and PRT Obects

In this video we take a quick look at some possible workflows with the new Birth Channel Generator utility in Krakatoa MX 2.5.

On the rendering front, the PCache now allows the pre-caching of Emission and Absorption channels and the toggling of the Use Emission and Use Absorption options on and off without the need to reload particles, and also introduces support for a per-particle ReflectionStrength channel to modulate raytraced or environment map reflections per particle.

For a full list of the new features, improvements, and bug fixes, please see the Krakatoa MX 2.5.0 Release Notes.

Effex 2.50.01 for Cinema 4D R13 - R16

Artikel Cinema 4D, Artikel Effex, Artikel Fire, Artikel Fluid, Artikel Motion Graphic, Artikel particle, Artikel Simulation, Artikel Smoke, Artikel VFX,
[ #Cinema4D #simulation ]
Effex 2.5 - the latest version of Cinema 4D plugin for creating physics-based simulations is now available.

>> See Also: Cinema 4D tutorial

Features are:

Bullet Dynamics & Two-Way Coupling
Rigid Bodies and Fluids are one of the most used features for VFX nowadays. Effex brings these two now together by providing the artist with a quick and easy way to create rigid body dynamics for volumes using the most popular Bullet Physics library.
Furthermore these dynamic volumes can be fully coupled to fluid dynamics allowing two-way interaction. Ships floating on water or cars being carried away by a massive flood based on physical properties like mass and density is a breeze now.

State-of-the-Art Surface Tension
The new surface tension models make the big difference when simulating small scale effects and equip the artist with brand new algorithms based on latest research.
It provides the artist with new ways to create bubble dynamics, wiggling water droplets and similar small scale phenomena increasing realism in these scenarios.

Pipeline Viewer
Full control of the whole simulation pipeline is now given via the Pipeline Viewer giving the artist the chance to define and understand when the used nodes are evaluated during a given timestep. Making it easier to create and manage complex simulation setups.
Also it opens the door for custom setups to be handled by simply reordering nodes.

Vast Effex API
Now shipping with a vast API for third party developers it gives read & write access to the most important structures in Effex like Particles, Channels, Volumes etc.. So external renderers or other plugins can now easily support Effex simulation data!
Furthermore it allows third parties to create their own plugin constraints, forces and operators to extent the Effex Framework opening the door to new/custom algorithms being introduced even during a running project.

High-Quality Viscosity for Gases
Effex' high-quality viscosity is not an own liquid dynamics node any longer (viscous liquids) but has been rewritten to now be available as a setting in all fluid dynamics!
This means you can now also use it for any smoke and fire simulation which adds to the realism and quality tremendously (and is not available in any other package we know of).
Also variable viscosity is of course possible to mimic real-world behaviors even more (such as lowered viscosity at higher temperatures).

New Menu, Quicktabs and Candidate buttons
The new Effex menu is much more intuitive to read with nodes being grouped in a more meaningful way. This makes it more intuitive for the artist to know what nodes logically fit together.
Another workflow enhancement is the new Quicktab that is available in several nodes and contains useful mini-setups involving the specific node. Beside this Effex 2.5 also extents the candidate buttons availability in several nodes increasing workflow speed even more.

MultiVolume and MoGraph Support
The multivolume is an enhancement that a lot of users were wishing for. It allows to take several input meshes and convert them to volumes avoiding cluttering your object manager and makes linking multiple volumes in other nodes way easier and faster.
Another huge advantage that comes along with it is that rigid dynamics can be easily applied to all contained volumes.
But not enough, the MultiVolume also natively supports MoGraph's Cloner and Matrix objects, so now the fun begins for all those motion graphics artists.

Mesh Curvature
The new mesh curvature operator calculates curvatures on any volume or mesher's mesh which in turn can be used by other nodes to create curvature based effects.
It can be use it in conjunction with the Particle Mesh emitter for example to restrict the emission based on the curvature at the sample locations.

Mesh Smoother
Additionally to the volume smoother there is now a mesh smoother which is marvelleous at enhancing your final liquid meshes not only visually, as in smoother, but also topologically, as in better distributed mesh polygons.
This is especially important in rendering quality and later mesh editing procedures.

Improved Particle Emitters
Both the Volume Emitter and the Mesh Emitter do now contain much more options to more efficiently generate particles. Volume driven emission densities, sample distances to avoid overlapping particles and create uniform distributions, curvature based emissions and straightforward color and UV emissions make the emitters more powerful.

Faster Mesher!
The mesher sees a huge increase in performance for all meshing algorithms involved.
Speed ups of 400 - 500% are possible especially in more splashy scenes. It is now feasible to use the high-quality meshing modes and therefore gain higher-quality results even in complex scenarios.

Effex supported renderers include the Cinema 4D renderer, Cinema 4D NET, V-Ray and Thinkbox Krakatoa. The software can read and write data in various particle file formats, including Krakatoa .prt, Houdini .bgeo/.geo, Realflow .bin, ASCII/Binary .pda/.pdb, Pointclouds .pts, etc.

The Plugin works with Cinema 4D R13 - R16

Cebas thinkingParticles 6 for 3ds Max 2013 - 2015

Artikel 3ds Max, Artikel Cebas, Artikel Motion Graphic, Artikel particle, Artikel Thinking Particles, Artikel thinkingParticles, Artikel VFX,
[ #VFX #3dsMax ]
Cebas has announced its flagship plugins widely known for its fully procedural and physically accurate, real world destruction and special effects simulations in the movie industry with many new feature like soft bodies, a fluid solver, and multi-physics

>> See Also: Cebas thinkingParticles 6 for 3ds Max

Cebas thinkingParticles 6 Overview

thinkingParticles 6.0 Shape Operator Node

ImplicitShape in thinkingParticles Release 6.0 is the newly designed Shape Operator node generating iso surface representations of density created by a particle cloud, and works to amazing 3d dimensions in creating a surface for fluid particle effects. It can also be used to create any kind of surface generated from particles and you can change multi-modality views to see its effects.

thinkingParticles 6.0 Multi-Physics Fluid Solver

MultiPhysics fluid dynamics presents a breakthru in realistic simulation of water and incompressible flowing substances. Release 6.0 integrates workflow of events to a high degree of manipulation based on realistic flow effects. The MultiPhysics Fluid Solver allows for soft-bodies interacting with rigid-bodies in FlowBoundary node; inter-particle procedural joints; HydroBoat

new thinkingParticles 6.0 Analyzer Tool

Another groundbreaker for thinkingParticles 6.0 is the real time Analyzer that tracks every development path of a simulation networks in all its complexity. The real-time Analyzer further empowers users to truly analyze in-depth details of DynamicSets; tracks PositionBorn in particle sets; emitterpaths; TrailBorn, FlowGroups captured in time intervals, giving users immense control, finest adjustments.

thinkingParticles 6.0 Generator SnapShot Operator

The Generator node can now procedurally create a mesh snapshot of any amount of particles forming one single larger particle representing the mesh at the time of snapshot using particle modelling and allow the complex whole to be simulated as one.

thinkingParticles 6.0 Distance-based TrailBorn

Powerful tool! Users create time-release complex structures based on procedural & particle modelling at interactive rates minus the hard work. Using Trail nodes, multi-level particles are generated - toggle distances of how the entire model meshes out procedurally, enabling effortless generation of sprawls, spiralling networks, symmetries or not.

ContactPoints Joint Creation

New Utility added to thinkingParticles 6 to enhance Joint creation combined with Physics simulation. Any number of meshes can be selected and joints placed at closest contact points between objects to simulate joint movements. Thousands of joints can be created with a few clicks instead of cumbersome clicks.

Enhanced 6.0 GeomContact

The GeomContact operator powerfully positions outputs between selected points of objects to create connections, procedurally, thereby giving the user greater flexibility and control as the object changes in scenarios across environments, interactively stable in conjunctions with other objects.

New Physics Parameter Handling

By introducing a new level of integrative multiphysics solvers, artists effectively assign independent simulation parameters to particles right away via the physics simulation setup options. E.g., anchoring several animations to a swinging rope (BTropeImport node) and assigning directly to each object/particle which physics-solver will affect its motion to the swinging rope and the parameters involved. The old style group-based settings were slower and have been deemed obsolete but can still be called up from the menu when needed.

Spline Physics, Spline Modeling

NEW nodes enable quick succession procedural spline modelling [3ds Max] New node, SplinePool, auto-generates a network of spline particles across any selected surfaces. The new nodes: SplineInit; SplineImport; SplineData; IsSpline; SplinePhysics; SplineKnot: the ultimate spline modelling tool for artists dealing with complex and diverse setups within tight deadlines.
