Corona for C4D Alpha 6 RC1 is now available for download with the latest feature set from the recently released Corona 1.5 for 3ds Max over to Corona for C4D.
So what are some of the most significant new features from the 1.5 Core that appear in A6 RC1?
-Interactive LightMix, -Bloom & glare, filmic tone mapping and other VFB post-processing features (accessible both through Corona VFB and C4D Picture Viewer), -PBR materials, -Image denoising, -Much faster displacement processing, -… and many, many more (complete list coming with the final A6 release).
Corona Renderer 1.5 for Autodesk 3ds Max 2012-2017 with some pretty cool features and improvements. Its focuses on significantly reducing the need for post-production software, increasing compatibility with materials from third party software, and of course increased stability
New Features: Interactive LightMix is unique to Corona Renderer and lets you adjust intensity and color of your lights and light emitting materials during and after render – perfect for anything from subtle adjustments through to turning day into night.
Corona Materials have been updated to match evolving industry standards. This means they will work more like you expect if you are familiar with working in other engines, and gives increased compatibility when importing materials from third party software such as Allegorithmic’s Substance tools, Quixel’s Megascans, etc. Existing scenes will load with the new PBR mode disabled, and with Legacy mode enabled if necessary, to ensure they render without any changes to the materials. Also, textured Corona materials can now be previewed directly in the 3ds Max viewport.
VFB features such as bloom, glare, filmic tone mapping, vignette, and saturation give you much more creative control over the end result, reducing your need to rely on post-production software.
LUTs have been added to the VFB so that you can load .cube and .3dl LUT files to apply to your renders. The CoronaOutput map now also supports LUT processing, which can be used to apply LUTs to a bitmap or procedural map for use in your materials.
Corona Distance Map lets you create “smart” materials that know how far away they are from objects in the scene. Use this to add waves around a coastline, wear-and-tear where objects meet, dirt and noise under window sills, and more.
Smaller Improvements -CoronaMtls can now be displayed directly in the viewport: Corona materials can now be displayed in the viewport with visible textures. - Making refraction glossy no longer darkens the material -Added option to denoise individual render elements -A checkbox for each render element allows you to enable Denoising for that element. Added temporal consistency option to Corona Scatter When the “Distribute on” object is animated, enabling this option will prevent the instances popping in and out of existence across keyframes. -CoronaOutput map has new controls: brightness, saturation, contrast. -Non-color mapped render elements (e.g. world position, normals, velocity) are now saved linearly in EXR format This is due to a limitation in 3ds Max. It also means that for proper saving to LDR, the gamma has to be overridden to 1.0 in the file save dialog. -Partial support for 3ds Max ART Renderer’s Physical Material added Most features are supported, with partial support for Clearcoat and Subsurface Scattering. Metalness is not supported. -Lowered memory footprint when using more than 255 lights -Unchecking the Cast Shadows property now has a more consistent effect Changing this setting in the 3ds Max Object Properties dialog now works the same as using the object’s material in a CoronaRaySwitch in all but the GI slots. -Improved parsing of scenes with a LOT of Scatter instances by about 50% -New contrast algorithm – works very closely to Photoshop, and does not make the image brighter or darker in general. -Contrast can now have negative values that lower the original image contrast. -Color Tint is now accessible from the VFB This was previously available in the CoronaCameraMod and Camera/Exposure/Tone Mapping rollout in the Render Setup, and is now shown directly in the VFB. -Corona Proxy Exporter was updated to version 0.96. -Corona Converter Script was updated to version 1.29.
Corona Renderer 1.5 is freely available to all customers on FairSaaS (monthly, yearly), Box with Subscription and Educational/Student license more information here. The next public Alpha of Corona for C4D

Corona Renderer 1.4 for 3ds Max is now available with many new features to this CPU-based un(biased) photorealistic renderer.
Render times can be reduced by as much as 50 to 70% thanks to the new denoising capability, which is based on the 3D scene information and not just a 2D post-process effect, while adaptive rendering further reduces noise and grain in renders. Corona now also efficiently handles scenes with more than 255 lights.
Workflow is accelerated thanks to multiple render regions in interactive rendering, the Visual Frame Buffer allowing renders to be saved for quick A / B comparisons, the use of Nitrous for viewport drawing of all Corona Light / proxy / scatter items, and the option to display Corona Scatter objects as pointclouds in the viewport.
The update also brings with it an extensive list of other improvements and features, bug fixes, and support for all versions of 3ds Max, including the recently released 2017 version, in the installer.
Full information on the changes is available on the company blog post

Corona v1.3 for 3ds Max 2011-2016 is now available to all customers on FairSaaS (monthly, yearly), Box with Subscription and Educational/Student license
Animated Corona Proxy added animation support to Corona Proxy. It uses the same .cproxy format as the old static proxy.
Anisotropy Improvement Reflection anisotropy is now in object space by default (highlights are rotated when rotating the object). UVW-space anisotropy can be optionally enabled.
Added Corona Layered Material New Layered Material works like 3ds Max Blend material, but it combines multiple materials instead of just two. This for example allows quick setup of complex rusted or worn-off materials.
Optional Render Elements Anti-Aliasing Render elements can now have anti-aliasing enabled or disabled individually. Both elements with and without AA can be rendered in a single shot. Also the “Render elements without AA” checkbox was removed as it is no longer needed.
Corona Scatter – Collision Detection Much denser packing of scattered instances is now generated when “Avoid collisions” is on and the instances are randomly rotated. We also added the “strictness”parameter – it relaxes the self-intersection constraint a bit, making it possible to densely fill an area with almost non-intersecting instances.
Full features list and fixed list can be found here!

The Corona Converter can convert 3ds Max bitmaps in the entire scene with just one click, allowing to easily speed up rendering usually by 10-20%. Below are some examples from our real test scenes. Faster - A4 Benchmark Interior scene – 9% faster - Car Scene – HDRI – 30% faster - BTR scene – 20% faster - Tree Scene – 12% faster
Smaller Improvements -Better error reporting: non-obtrusive, non-blocking, with option to surpress further messages. -Added ability to specify licensing server IP on render nodes -Corona dialogs (VFB, licensing, …) are now HiDPI-compatible -Glossy reflections are no longer darker on object outlines. -Added displacement switch to RayswitchMtl -Render passes now correctly output negative values more details on Corona blog

Corona Render for C4D Alpha v3 is now available for download. This is a quick update that brings many small, but highly useful features, before some of the larger issues (interactive rendering, Mac support) are addressed.
Added new Corona materials (advanced light emitter: LightMtl, advanced volumetric material: VolumeMtl) Added new shaders (ambient occlusion: AoShader, geometry edge/vertex shader: WireShader) Enhanced Corona Material (added SSS support, absorption shader) IES light support Improved standard C4D materials support Added basic support for Non-Corona materials (e. g. Banzi, Cheen) Added Corona VFB
Minor Changes
Delayed license check until Corona is actually used (no licensing popups until Corona is used for rendering) Support for manual license activation/deactivation Added possibility to set ZDepth pass from camera clipping Added support for global volume material Minor improvements in displacement (water level, support for negative values)
Main Bug Fixes
Fixes in Corona Light (“Occlude other lights” option) Fixes in material preview in viewport Fixed colormapping sometimes applied to material previews Gamma correction is no longer applied to displacement color/texture Fixed crashes when rendering immediately after material preview started
Note about Non-Corona materials
Corona for C4D now supports some of non-Corona materials (e. g. Banzi). You can either let Corona handle those automatically by setting “Convert all materials” in render settings or use the new material “External” which allows additional configuration for each material. Plugin will try to convert all materials (including the ones from other plugins), but some of materials might not be rendered correctly. For example, the reflectance is not handled too well yet – you can expect improvements in next releases.

Siger Studio has unveiled a free complex fresnel Texmap plugin for 3ds Max. It can be used to render materials with complex index of refraction (IOR): the regular material (for example V-Ray, Corona Renderer) can compute the Fresnel effect for dielectric materials like plastic based on the IOR of the material (n) – however metals have a more complicated Fresnel reflective curve that depends also on another parameter called extinction (k) coefficient: η = n + ik. n and k determine the two characteristics of the Fresnel curve for a material: the reflectivity at normal incidence and how quickly it fades to white at grazing angles.
The Texmap plugin can be used as a reflection color map in a material with the Fresnel option of the material turned off (this plugin does its own Fresnel calculations).
PARAMETERS
n – the n (IOR) values for the Red/Green/Blue wavelengths (0.650, 0.510 and 0.475 μm). k – the k (Extinction coefficient) values for the Red/Green/Blue wavelengths.
Presets – some presets for quick start (to enter other parameters (n, k) values it is necessary to select preset Custom).
If you need a bit different color (f. e. for various alloys), use a Color Adjustment parameters and adjust the Gamma, Hue, Saturation values. This way you still have the correct Fresnel curve and are just making color changes. Gamma – specifies the gamma correction value. Hue Shift – lets you change colors using a standard Hue spectrum. Range = -180…180. Saturation – the intensity or purity of the colors. Lowering the Saturation value removes color, causing the color to tend toward grayscale, while raising it intensifies the color. Range = -100…100.
How to get values
The site http://refractiveindex.info/ has the measured n and k values for many metals like Copper, Gold, Iron etc.
